Loic Jean-Albert | The Flying Dude

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Check the video out here.

Loic Jean-Albert, known on YouTube as “The Flying Dude”, is an expert parachuter, and one the world’s premier SkyFlying experts. He is nominated for an Emmy award for his camera work in the above film and is currently developing and testing a wing suit that can be used without a parachute to land.

In a recent New York Times article, Jean-Albert bluntly stated, “You might do it well one time and try another time and crash and die.

The sport of SkyFlying is exploding with popularity around the globe, although there aren’t many that are skilled enough to make the jumps yet. The United States Parachute Association requires that anyone considering a wingsuit jump would have to have completed at least 200 jumps and be accompanied by an instructor or 500 jumps to go solo.

Skyflying

Friday, April 4th, 2008

There is a new sport on the horizon, Skyflying. It is the art of flying the human body through the air using a special jumpsuit, called a wingsuit, that shapes the human body into an airfoil which can create lift. The wingsuit creates the airfoil shape with fabric sewn between the legs and under the arms.

Wingsuit flying appeals to skydivers and BASE jumpers because flying a wingsuit can easily increase freefall time from the average 60 second skydive up to 3 minutes of freefall time. Wingsuit pilots are constantly trying to lower their vertical speeds via different flying techniques, giving more time to experience the freedom and sensations of human flight.

Bugatti Veyron -vs- Eurofighter Typhoon

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

The BBC show, “Top Gear”, known for its outlandish and extreme road tests has landed yet another first…the new Bugatti Veyron drag racing…yes, a Eurofighter Typhoon.

The Bugatti Veyron is one of the fastest street-legal cars ever built, with it’s top speed exceeding 250 mph. In a race, it can blow the doors off almost anything. And it better be fast, given its $1.2 million sticker price.

But what if the Veyron’s opponent has no doors? What if instead of a driver’s seat, it has a cockpit? The show put the Veyron up against a Eurofighter Typhoon. The British Royal Air Force fighter has a top speed of 1,500 mph.

The two vehicles must complete a two-mile drag race. Both start from a standstill at the end of a runway. Its the best and most unusual drag race in history.
